Summer Make-Up Bag Essentials
Blog by Tanya-Rachel O'Donovan
With the summer approaching (hopefully) comes warmer days, bluer skies and happier times.
With the change of season, we should really shake up our makeup bags and make them a little more ‘summer friendly’ by introducing some drug store products. I personally couldn’t live without 3 key products in the summer season.
When the summer rolls in, I am all about a bronzey glow on my skin, eyes & lips. I love to look luminous and glowy from about the month of May onward.
Firstly you want to ensure your summer makeup will last on the skin all day in the heat and humidity. It can be a total different game trying to keep your makeup from sliding off your face, especially if you are venturing off on holiday to a hot country!
To help ensure the longevity of my makeup on my skin I ALWAYS use a primer prior to makeup application and a fixing spray after.
Two faves of mine would have to be the L’oreal lumi magique’ primer and the Makeup Revolution ‘Oil control fix spray’.
The primer is naturally glowy therefore it provides you with a radiance boost while helping your makeup last longer on the skin throughout the day/night. The fix spray is ideal to spritz on the skin after makeup application to ‘lock it in’ and to hydrate the skin at the same time. I also love to spray fixing spray on the skin as it intensifies the highlighter I apply to my cheekbones, cupids bow and collar bones etc. It really makes the highlight POP!
My third favourite product to introduce to my makeup bag for summer is a highlighter!
I personally like powder highlighters as I think they are the easiest to use, and they can also be used on the eyes as eyeshadow so they save room in your makeup bag.
I opt for compact palettes to reduce space when possible. In this case I love the Makeup Revolution ‘Ultra Pro Highlighter palette’. This palette has 8 gorgeously glowy shades ideal for use all over the face and body. The shade range in the palette is also ideal as you can continue to use it throughout the summer even if your skin tone deepens. The shade range will still cater for you the same way it does in May as it can in August even if your skin has gradually darkened.
I apply highlight to my brow bone, the inner corner of my eye, my cheek bones, my cupids bow, the tip of my nose & my collar bones! Basically anywhere that the sunlight can bounce off. Once applied I then use my spray to secure my makeup and intensify my glow!
And voila. My 3 top picks for my summer makeup look all available from Superdrug at the Bridgewater shopping centre.
I hope you enjoy trialling some new products for summer.
